With my first baby, I decided early on that I would not buy plastic toys. I love handmade crafts. I enjoy sewing. For years, I’ve been sewing Wool Food for my children and now they are available for others to enjoy!

The pieces that make up each Wool Food item are lovingly hand cut and hand stitched by me. The designs are mostly my own, made to look realistic but fun. My sewing production happens daily in my smoke-free, pet-free and children-ful home located in the Vancouver area of British Columbia, Canada.

Wool Food is a great addition to your child’s play kitchen or for a play grocery market or farmer’s market. These hand sewn felt food provide a colourful and soft tactile element to your child’s imaginative play.

Not only do children love playing with them, but my buyers now include adults who use Wool Food for home decor, home staging and fall or Christmas decorations.

All my felt food are hand stitched using 100% wool felt and stuffed with poly batting and cut scrap felt pieces. None of the leftover bits of wool felt is thrown out, but saved for future projects or used as stuffing.

Why do I use 100% wool felt?

Ecological and Renewable
Wool felt is both ecologically and animal friendly. It is a natural and sustainable resource.

Highly Durable
Wool Felt is highly resilient, retaining its strength and unique properties for decades. Therefore it will not pill and is highly durable after many years of use.

Resists Soiling
The outer layer of the wool fiber has a thin protective wax-like film, which acts as a raincoat, enabling wool to shed droplets of liquids without wetting the fabric. Spill a liquid on a horizontal wool surface and you have time to mop it up before it stains the fabric.

Flame Retardant
Because wool contains moisture in each fiber, it resists flame without chemical treatment. Instead of burning freely when touched by flame, wool chars and stops burning when it is removed from the source of fire. Wool is self-extinguishing. It will not support combustion; this is why wool blankets are recommended for use in extinguishing small fires.

Anti-bacterial
Wool fibers have a high concentration of fatty acids which keeps wool fabric from mildewing or retaining odours.

Hypoallergenic
Wool felt is hypoallergenic. Since wool is composed of the same proteins as human hair and fingernails it is rare that someone has an allergy to wool. Because wool is both slow to absorb moisture and is made from interlocked fibers that allow air flow, dust mites avoid wool.

In addition, the wool felt that I use is Oeko-Tex 100 or EN71 certified so that the felt is safe for children.
